Damping in Ashes can be modeled as a nonlinear load. A damping factor can be included as a parameter in the Support structure part or in the text file defining the support structure for imported structures (see Support section files ).

The damping load is calculated as

$$L = D_f\cdot V$$

where

$$L$$
is the magnitude of the damping load applied to the node
$$D_f$$
is the damping factor
$$V$$
is the magnitude of the velocity of the node

The damping load is applied in the opposite direction of the velocity of the node.
